Roller Coasters: 125 Years of Thrills
« on: June 23, 2009, 11:21:02 AM »
National Geographic has posted a nice article of some of the 'firsts' in roller coasters in the past 125 years (it was in June of 1884 that the first coaster opened at Coney Island).

The article is short but worth a look. Here's hoping there is more where that came from!

That doesn't count the scenic railways.

Thats why they are labeled scenic railways and not coasters to begin with. However, I did not know that about the Jim Thorpe track as I have been to that town and been on the Scenic Railroad they provide.

I always thought the first coaster was Steeplechase.
