Kingda Ka on the Travel Channel - 12/27/2005
« on: December 13, 2005, 02:36:28 PM »
I just got this note from Kristin giving us all a heads up -

Kingda Ka will appear in a Travel Channel show on 12/27 called "Made in
America."  The entire show is devoted to roller coasters.  Be sure to
check it out over the winter break!

I actually like this show a lot.  This should be a very good watch :)  Plus, I'm a Cheers fan ;)  (It's hosted by John Ratzenberger)

I love this show!  Awesome!  I really liked the episode with the hand made carousels.  I have been hoping they'd touch the amusement industry some more on this show.  Thanks for the heads up, Wade.

Comcrap is evil

Actually, TC is one of the main reasons I switched to DirecTV.  Well, that and the fact that it actually works.

Stew, you have the standalone Tivo?  You seem to have a much easier time porting these over than me lol

With DirecTV Tivo, I have to capture it to my PC using my ATI card.  Otherwise, its the greatest thing since sliced bread  :D

Yeah, I have a Series1 Standalone with a network card in it. I can rip the video right off of the TiVo into MPEG2 and then re-encode it into WMV or DiVx.

Love it! Seriously, everyone who doesn't have a TiVo or PVR needs to get one! Once you get it, you can neve go back to live TV!

I use a Replay Tv PVR (like Tivo but better)
has a network jack for broadband transfer to my PC hooked into my router and cable modem.

I also use a standalone DVD recorder (they now sell for around $99) works great.
I have a few shows backed up on DVD.
I will also be recording this one.

Also for those that have a Replay TV  there is software that lets other Replay TV users "log into " my unit and download my programs   in otherwords I can share my recoded TV problems over a broadband connection.

I know there are Tivo "hacks" that allow this with the DirecTV Tivos but then you no longer get software updates :(

I probably should just get a DVD recorder and then I could easily RIP it again on my PC.

Oddly enough, I've heard mixed opinions on the standalone Tivos even though they do allow hookup to your PC, etc. but the DTivos rock.  I could never go back now.

Yes the Stand alone DVD recorders are awesome.
great for your camcorder or it can even record directly from cable or Sat.
and once it's on DVD it can be copied as many times as you like
It also makes nice chapters

I seen them as low as $79 on black friday

I love these shows! I actually tape them, and use the structure and measurments, scale them, and use them in art, math, and science. It makes projects fun! ( Though your friends might think you are a weirdo, true fans should love doing this. Trust me, it's totally worth it.  8) What an idea !   ) -- I like these smilies a little too much, tehe  :D .

I'll look it up in a bit once my son is done with the Tivo.  Hopefully its in the guide.

I copied and pasted Kristins email word for word so that I wouldn't screw up relaying the message lol

edit:  Just checked - tomorrow night @ 9:00PM.  Its the second half of the show.  The first half appears to be about the bicycle.
