Pkd's Hypersonic Xlc Is For Sale
« on: December 14, 2006, 08:35:51 PM »
http://www.italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=937

I found this on other sites so I thought I would post it. I don't really know if this ride was good or not so I cant agree on the selling of it.

Thanks for the heads up Matt.  So I guess this is the start of the Cedar Fair "change".  Now who would even buy it!?!

I guess the footprint is a little to big to fit in stuntman's spot.  I enjoyed the launch, but after that it had a mean rattle to it. Plus factor in the low capacity and down time  ever other 40 minutes I can see why they want to unload it.  Is this selling for 125k as well?  ;D

Everything I hear about this ride is that its a total POS.  I've been to the park once since it opened and it was of course down for the day.  Its a shame because the ride will probably be a steal if anybody takes it but the costs to maintain it will likely far suprass that in just a few short years.

Oh, and congrats on your first post Hannah!  You type really well... :)

I found watching people on the brake run my favorite part of the ride. Man,  I'm going to miss those cherry cokes  ;)

This ride was great and had incredible airtime.  The first year.  ONLY.  It then became rough, painful and ended up being just dreadful in recent years.

Viper wasn't rough.  The shoulder restraints were unnecessary and they did hurt.  The coaster itself was fine.

In recent years, Hypersonic HAS been rough.  VERY rough.  I have more than once came off it with a headache I didn't have when I got on it.  I have also known people to leave the park after riding it.  This is NOT something Cedar Fair wants!

Why would they sell this attendance maker ?
For maintenance problems.
I finally got on it this year in November it didn't open till the afternoon but it was in the 40's that night so it had to warm up.
I think the launch was cool .
I actually think it has a small footprint and can fit well in any space.

It's a coaster that delivers what it promises in its name- Xtreme Launch-and not much else of note. I remember when I got off the ride beyond the initial shock of the mind-blowing launch I could not get over just how unsatisfying the rest of the ride was.

The track is weird, the wheels are weird, the trains are weird...it's just a very unsatisfying experience. And you can understand the decision to sell it, as there is a launch coaster across the park that is thoroughly better than HSXLC in every way.

It's an interesting development, no doubt.

With all the rides either up for sale or being modified, it kinda makes you wonder. Will KK be put up for sale next or just scapped?

^^ I think they wheels are plastic or something, not polyeurathane, they are not your everyday wheel!

^ Probably scrap as its just too big, if it remains a matience burden it will probably be leaving the throne

Actually they are  your everyday wheel as they are tires.

Learn more about XLC on that site as well, it is very informative.

*Note  credit goes to Joel Rogers for the photo, Thanks.

As for Kingda Ka, I don't see it leaving anytime soon.

You would think rubber tires would make a ride smoother...and they don't at all. There is a considerable rattle.

The thing that makes it easier for PKD fans to take this (potential) loss is that there really would be no gaping footprint after its removal. I mean, a patron who goes to the park and has no prior knowledge of HSXLC would have no clue a ride stood in that area, it would just look like a stretch of blacktop. I think that's healthy for a park.

Google is your friend (Kings dominion aerial photos)

Wade, looks like a bunch of trees like Wow said.  I've never been before the 03 season so I have no clue. You could always E-mail Sam  :)
If not, click the link to look at the different season from the 70's till now.

If you are going to email Sam ( a friend ), instead of trusting my answer on this one, I'm hurt! :)

Besides, Google already drew you a picture!

^ Oh, I trust your answer! Don't be hurt  ;) I just know Wade and Sam are good friends. That ...and Sam's at the park every other weekend . Btw , I'm looking forward to my third time at Volcano mania (Apr14th) to see what else happened in the park since the complete take over.

I always found it funny that S&S decided to go with the rubber wheels in favor of traditional coaster wheels for a smoother ride, yet it backfired.  Are they solid rubber, or air-filled?  If it's the former, I can see the mistake.

They are filled with air. I've witnessed a flat while waiting for the next train. The tire came completely of the hub/rim.
