El Toro Vs The Voyage
« on: April 09, 2007, 10:42:17 PM »
Although I only got a chance to ride El Toro once, due to the never ending lines, I think it was one of the best roller coasters I have ever ridden. It was a hot day in June and I waited on line, for the front row, for over 3 hours. El Toro instantly made it to my top 10 coasters list. I never had such an intrest in wooden coasters until I rode El Toro. After researching different wooden coasters, especially the new era of woodies, I constantly question whether Great Adventure's El Toro or Holiday World's The Voyage is a better wooden coaster. I have never ridden The Voyage, but I want to so badly. If anyone has ever ridden both El Toro and The Voyage, I would like to learn about your opinions on the two coasters. Even if you have only ridden El Toro, or neither, let me know what your view is on these two breathtaking coasters.

One of these two rides has strong airtime, a glass smooth ride, a breath-taking lift hill, the steepest drop of any wooden coaster and, though not my favorite wood by any means, is tremendously exciting and fun.  The other coaster has a more exciting ending and is located in Indiana, very close to perhaps one of my very favorite wood coasters, the much under-rated Raven.

Raven  na      Legend is better

The Voyage is everything you read and more if you ride it at night.
Chuck and I rode it in the front the back in the day and back seat at night a few times each.
The first ride I wasn't impressed until I rode it again and again then at night.
Its a wild out of control ride which I love. You actually get a workout riding it.

I also love Toro but it seems to slow a bit near the end.

The Voyage just has so much out of control speed and with it being longer gives it an advantage.
Its like 2 coasters in one.
if parks want to increase attendance build one of these (half the cost of Nitro).

Fly out to Columbus for $49  grab a rental car
stop at Kings island   $24  ACE discount
Stop at SFKK -         free  SF pass
then Holiday World   $24   ACE discount

I'm may be going back this year  who wants to go ?

I'd take El Toro over Voyage any day.  Voyage was just too intense for my tastes.  When at Holiday World, I'd much rather be riding Raven.

How are the lines at Holiday World? It seems like there wouldn't me much of a wait for anything.

Ha!  Holiday World's business has increased markedly.  The lines, like at any park, can be anything from non-existent to hours.

The waterpark gets a LOT of business.  Sometimes, on very hot days, the dry park has very few lines, while the waterpark is swamped.

And with only 3 coasters, the lines don't truely spread well.

The crews there are really good though and they have a ton of flats there to spread out the lines.

Oh and to which one I think is better, I like them both!

Hmm... El Toro or Voyage... I know I like Voyage more, but El Toro is definatly up there with my favorites as well...
I'll do a pro/con list of each ride...

Pro's : The Voyage
 - Setting in the woods
 - 8 tunnels
 - Abrupt airtime
 - Double down into turnaround
 - The most intense coaster I've been on
 - Triple down in the tunnel
 - No Brakes (on)
 - The Last 90 degree turn rules.
 - It gets faster as you get closer to the end of the ride
 - Not a lot of down time
 - It beats you up real good
 - The small hill that throws you to the left after the first tunnel and near top speed.
 - The reverse banking and bunny hop in the helix

Con's: The Voyage
 - It's 14 hours away from my house (driving)
 - The Lackluster airtime on the first 3 hills

Pro's : El Toro
 - It's close to home
 - First Drop
 - Amazing airtime on the first 2 hills
 - Smoothness
 - Setting on the lake
 - Cable lift
 - Twister section
 - Hill Over RT
 - Trains are comfy (for people not too tall)
 - Theming

Con's: El Toro
 - Down Time
 - Long Waits
 - Slow dispatching
 - Doesn't beat you up like a wooden coaster should
 - Looses so much speed going through the turns at the end... it should give crazy airtime over the last 2 or 3 hills
 - The small hill after the first turnaround
 - The need to be stapled.

Fress  you said it all
I totally agree

I think you left out a much longer ride/Voyage

also this may be the best reason I like it more

I've often wondered if Intamin always intended for the end to be that slow.  Nearly all of their rides slam into the brakes at the very end.  Never been on Voyage but I do have to agree with Toro running out of gas at the end being one of its main cons.

Yeah, those first two hills on Voyage I was like uhhh....

Basically, what I feel is that if you like airtime you will choose El Toro and if you like the out of control feeling you would like Voyage.

I like both so it's a tough choice!

I like both air time and out of control...as between the two of them for the best wood in the USA, I choose the Georgia Cyclone....or Tremors when it has been running all day long.  But if I have to pick between JUST El Toro and Voyage, I'll pick El Toro every time.  And I live a darn sight closer to Holiday World than to Great Adventure.  I get to the former about once a year...I usually try to hit Great Adventure AT LEAST three times.

Have fun MForce. I wish I could take a trip to Holiday World, but since it is so far away, that isn't happening anytime soon.  :'(

I might, it all depends on how much money I have. The week before I will be in Wildwood for four days.

If I don't go to CP then, I am definitely making it out there in September.

Thats a really bad list to be honest.

No TTD or Ka on the list. I don't think Goliath would be scarier than MF either.
