Here's a tip for people planning to watch a casino implosion here this week:
Don't blink.
The Sands Casino Hotel, all 21 floors of it, is expected to collapse in less than 20 seconds Thursday night.
The dramatic downfall will follow another short spectacle -- a six-minute fireworks display.
A big crowd's expected for the two-part show, the climax of a ceremony set to start at 9:30 p.m.
"I want to say thousands (of spectators)," says Carmen Gonzales, a spokeswoman for Pinnacle Atlantic City, which is removing the Sands to make way for a $1.5 billion casino resort.
She notes the light show alone will be "the largest rooftop fireworks display in New Jersey's history."
"The public's going to come out in full force," she predicts.
Here are tips from Pinnacle for folks taking in the show.
Arrive early. With no formal viewing area for the public, the best spots will go to those who find them first.
Because the Sands is inland, at Indiana and Pacific avenues, other buildings may obscure sight lines.
"The best view . . . will most likely be from the beach or Boardwalk areas from Tennessee Avenue to Park Place," the gaming firm advises.
The event will take place even if it rains.
Parking shouldn't be a problem. There are multiple garages and lots in the area.
But traffic might be snarled by police barriers on several streets from 5 to 11 p.m.
Pacific Avenue will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians between Ohio to Kentucky avenues.
Also closed: Indiana and Mount Vernon avenues and Martin Luther King Boulevard, all from Atlantic Avenue to the Boardwalk.
Fencing and fabric should keep "almost all" debris within the implosion site, Pinnacle says. But dust should be heavy near the site and may spread "outside and downwind of the area."
As a result, the event's not recommended "if you find dust uncomfortable or irritating, or if you have any respiratory conditions that would be aggravated by dust," Pinnacle advises. "This applies to pets, too."
And while the casino operator will be serving up an extravaganza, spectators will be on their own for one of life's basics.
"Pinnacle," the company notes, "will not be providing restroom facilities for the general public."
