Wildwood Adventure Pier Redevelopment
« on: October 14, 2009, 10:26:17 PM »
Looks like they are moving some rides from Hunts pier to Adventure Pier in preparation for the NEW COASTER
Wildwood planners unanimously approve major redevelopment of Adventure Pier

WILDWOOD - With its so-called “off the beaten path” location, Adventure Pier, the Morey Organization’s southernmost resort attraction, has always seemed to some like a shy step child compared to its more exciting and glamorous relatives to the north, Surfside Pier and Mariners Landing.

According to co-owner Jack Morey, the pier with two former names (Wild Wheels and Fun Pier), has been difficult to market. “The truth is,” he said, “we’ve had a really hard time making it work. The market, even in the best of times, never really supported three piers.”

Well, that is all about to change as the organization has decided to completely redevelop and rebrand the pier into its own stand-alone resort destination. On Monday, Oct. 5, the Wildwood Planning Board gave its formal blessing to all proposed changes to the pier.

* The Skyscraper from Hunt’s will be relocated to Adventure Pier.
* Two 50-foot-high towers with a rope “Zipline” approximately 350-feet between them.
* A multi-story “tactical rope obstacle course.”
* Open-air and under-pier family racetrack, and kiddie Driving School racetrack.

According to the organization, these changes will not just be a facelift, they will be “an entire redevelopment, something that really, really creates excitement.”

ABOVE From left to right (top left photo and above), the pier’s entrance will feature three new attractions. Gone will be the former Boat Tag ride. In its place will be a new Candy Land. The center of the pier will have a Kohr Brothers ice cream stand. And on the right will be a unique two-story Stewarts Root Beer restaurant with upstairs 76-seat Merry-go-round style dining room.

A mirror maze next to a candy shop. Kudos for whoever thought that one up.

I'm just excited to see Great White getting the attention it deserves by finally having some legitimate company.  It always felt abandoned down there.

And removing the boat tag game at the entrance is a good idea.  That always made it feel ghetto when you approached IMO.

Great White is underestimated as it is. It's not good adding remoteness, and a far walk to boot.

Adding a two-story stewart's root beer restaurant with a carousel second floor is definetly a BIG step in the right direction. They always have good food, and they have the best root-beer in the state.

this is cool since I stay down in this area near the convention center
and looks like they have to move the skyscraper to make room for the NEW Proposed coaster on Hunts pier.

This is the one that'll span the two piers, right?

Were all hoping so!  I'll leave this one at I'll believe it when I see it because it sounds too good to be true (the coaster that is).

If they follow through with it,I think a good name for it would be the Boardwalk Bully.

If another company is purchasing this pier, then moreys will have more money to spend o a new wood coaster. It doesnt sound so far fetched anymore.

As of this moment, I'm not aware of any potential sale of a pier.  I'm not surprised that the Morey's have this kind of money though.  They've been doing quite well in Wildwood.

Tourism, tourism, tourism. That and customer loyalty are what keeps that place in business.

Yes, beach blast helps... Ive played in it a few times.

But our beloved jersey shore is a vacation destination for people all the way in Quebec.  Seriously.

We'll just have to play it at Knoebels next year. That's now two Boat Tag games I've missed out on playing, because I said "maybe next time" and then the park ripped 'em out (Indiana Beach being the other).

The hotel I usually stay at is right across the boardwalk from Adventure Pier or Wild  Wheels or whatever it is called. All day and all night you can just hear the boat tag going off. Now when I go down again, it will be utterly quiet. :( Still love Wildwood though no matter what. Blows Ocean City, MD out of the water IMO.

It shouldn't affect the monster trucks Kingdakafan, they run the monster trucks in the same place as beach blast and they're not getting rid of the tournament any time soon.
