Town May Close Road To Aid Lake Compounce

...Earlier this year, park officials suggested closing the road, but at a meeting March 25, the town's economic development committee decided against the closing.

Instead, the committee is focusing on having Lake Compounce relocate the road and remove the old section at its own expense, estimated at $3 million to $4 million. And officials are looking at tax abatements that could help Compounce financially if it undertakes the work.

"We are looking at ways we can help," said town council Chairman Edward Pocock III. "We don't want to see Lake Compounce's plans get canned because they were not getting a hand. Investing in Compounce is only smart."...
