The Old West Was Never This Wild!
CEDAR POINT ANNOUNCES DETAILS ON NEW ROLLER COASTER;
MAVERICK WILL RUSTLE UP RIDERS IN 2007

SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2006 ? Cedar Point will take guests to a new frontier in 2007. The historic amusement park/resort has announced plans for a new roller coaster for next summer named Maverick. Located in Frontiertown, Maverick will treat riders to multiple terrain-hugging elements that have never been experienced on a Cedar Point roller coaster.

Guests will begin their adventurous journey on Maverick by boarding steam-era-styled coaster trains with an ultra-sleek profile that will carry them along the 4,450-foot-long course. Linear synchronous motors will propel the train to the top of a 105-foot-tall first hill. From there, it's not straight down ? it's more than straight down! Maverick will take its passengers down to Earth at an astonishing 95-degree angle at speeds of up to 57 mph to within five feet above the ground! From there, the train will hug the terrain as it twists and banks around hairpin turns with quick but smooth changes in direction. Throughout the 2-minute, 30-second ride, passengers will also experience eight "airtime-filled hills," three inversions and a second launch through a dark tunnel that will leave them in awe as they reach speeds of 70 mph!

Situated on 5.5 acres between the Mean Streak roller coaster and Thunder Canyon water ride, Maverick will be Cedar Point's 17th coaster, more scream machines than any park in the world. Maverick will cost approximately $21 million to build, making it one of the single largest investments in the park's 137-year history.

"Maverick represents a new brand of roller coaster," said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. "It is only right that it be built at the Roller Coaster Capital of the World ? Cedar Point."

At the end of the 2005 season, the former White Water Landing ride was demolished and removed from the park ? although the ride's station remained for use with Maverick's queue line. Throughout the winter and spring of 2006, construction crews prepared and poured footers for Maverick, even before the park opened for the season. Speculation grew throughout the summer as to what Cedar Point was planning for the future. Up until this time, "On-Point!" ? the official Cedar Point online web log, has only teased the public and worldwide audience of coaster enthusiasts about the latest happenings at the site.

Guests who crave fun and excitement can ride Maverick when Cedar Point opens for the 2007 season in May. (Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride.)

"As a coaster enthusiast, I can't wait to ride Maverick," stated Carole Sanderson, president of American Coaster Enthusiasts, a worldwide club of coaster enthusiasts. "I believe Maverick will delight its riders with many surprising elements, including its compact layout and staggered launches."

Guests will be able to follow the construction progress of Maverick at the park's Web site, www.cedarpoint.com. Exclusive webcams, "OnPoint!" and the FUNtimes newsletter will help keep thrill-seekers up-to-date on the happenings at the ride site throughout the construction process.

Seems like an intresting little ride, not really a record breaker but it could be a diamond in the rough

Am I the only one that thinks this is not a lot of ride for 21M?  Sorry, to me it looks short and rather pointless... (bad pun).  The 95 degree first drop looks as though it last for about 10ft. of track and will happen in about 2 seconds.

I'll likely get out there to ride it but I'm not sure what they were thinking in terms of spending that much capital on this thing.  Medusa was 6 million less.  Oh well, videos don't always do these rides justice.

Wasn't this a Intamin ride  ?
It say Design by IntaRide, LLC of Glen Burnie, Md.  ?
Yes I will be making my first trip out there next year and may hit kennywood on the way if anyone wants to go  I know its a long way off but I never been to those two parks and very excited about hitting those coasters.
Yes 21 Mil is a alot  I guess the theming and such  ?

It's most definately Intamin but they don't do the actual design process.  Although RCDB does have Ingenieur B?ro Stengel GmbH listed as the designer... who knows.

Another really odd part is the length of the trains.  Yes, there are 6 trains but only 12 people per train!@!  Thats just insane.  This is a Intamin ride so I would never expect it to ever reach full capacity either.

Where are these eight airtime hills there talking about? I only counted like 2-3...

I will go out there next year, but that is alot of money for that ride IMO.

I personally think it looks cool. It's something different, not a record breaker, etc. Looks like it could be a very good ride.

I also think the 21million has to do with the theming. It looks to be well themed which I love. Hopefully this is something we will start seeing more of.

I also hope we get those dueling moments in real life.

How many Intamins is this in a row for CP now???

Seems like a fun little ride, doesnt seem it will top IOA theming wise, they did need a ride not as intense at TTD and MF. As for money....KK is only $9 million more, of course thats without the breakdowns and issues. Thats ALOT of money for that type of ride as people have said. Also there LSM's which can be hell to maintain

Looks to be a fun ride. The launch below the station looks different but ita shame that they brake it before the second launch. Yea 95 degrees at 105 feet, it will barely be noticable. They did a great job on the site though !

Well atleast they are running a seperate power line to the ride so they can keep it running consistently.

That barrel roll is going to be death.

SR kills and it's going half the speed into the barrel rolls.

Looks like a fun inversion! Although we had one of those here at GADV 11 years ago and it was called Viper :P...Not only does it have the same inversion, it very well could have the same steel from Viper's heartline in it!

Thats incredibally low to the ground, I wonder how fast it will hit it though...

Theres a video of it testing on YouTube. It's a horrible quality and you don't see the whole ride just 15 seconds of it.

Some Testing video
but very crappy from a cell phone.

www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Maverick+testing&search=Search

here some pics from CP site

http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/latest/gallery

As Wade mentioned before the drop is just to small for $21 mill they could have gone up to 150-200 feet or made the drop into a hole

Gotta love these rumors.  I remember reading somewhere that there were some sort of issues with it and it would be delayed by at least a month.  Good to see things right on track since Cedar Point needs for this to be a winner.
