Lake Compunce PTR 8/19/08
« on: August 21, 2008, 01:11:27 AM »
Yesterday, August 19th, my friend Jenna and I took our first trip to Lake Compounce. Boulder Dash was running a little slow in the morning, so my two morning rides did not live up to the hype I've been hearing. Later on in the day, man did that ride deliver. My number one wooden coaster is still Ravine Flyer II without a doubt, but after my evening rides on Boulder Dash, I can safely say that it is tied right now with El Toro for my number two wooden coaster. Here's a quick list of what we rode:

Boulder Dash x5
Wildcat x2
Zoomerang x2
Down Time x1
Thunder N' Lightning x2
American Flyers x1
Wave Swinger x2
Rotor x2
Saw Mill Plunge x1
Ferris Wheel x1
Ghost Hunt x2
Twister x1
Enterprise x1
Sky Ride x1

We were the first ones in the station, even before the ride ops!

Here I am all ready to ride Boulder Dash for my first time.

Some of the new bracing that was added this past off-season.

No love for the green train today.

Noted!

This enterprise was really intense. Once the ride starts, you basically do two rotations or so before the ride starts to move into its vertical position, making the cars swing A LOT. (Notice the cars in all different positions)

Sweet setting for a pirate ship ride.

This shooting dark ride was actually really fun - fun enough to get me on it twice!

Skyha? I mean Thunder N? Lightning

Here is a little bit of themeing for Thunder N? Lightning. When we first came across this, I actually thought there was a real person inside providing weather status for the park.

Jenna was really happy that the soft drinks were FREE!

Rotor! I was the youngest one on the ride both times I rode it.

Here is a close up of me before I knew the floor was going to drop about 3 feet, opposed to 3 inches like the one I rode at Great Adventure when I was younger.

The main reason we came here.

Wildcat was actually so smooth that it surprised me.

Cool picture of Down Time.

Dummy party!

Nice setting for the water park section.

Here I am getting a drink. Did I mention they are FREE!?

I will leave you with a few more pictures of Boulder Dash.

I wonder why they call it BOULDER Dash?

This shot courtesy of Jenna.

Thanks for reading!

Cool report... and I'm glad you loved BD (it's both of our #2 coasters, only behind Voyage for me)... you should try it in the pitch black... it will give RF2 a run for it's money in your top 2 spots. Maybe you can join us when we go there the night before PPP at Knoebels...

You and Jenna both had some sweet shirts... is she your girlfriend?

Yeah, that sucks about Chiller...I hate to see it like that. Hey, so we should get a group picture or something ok. I'll call you later!

Yea that would be really cool. No, Jenna isn't my girlfriend. We've been friends for a really long time.

Boulder Dash is simply amazing! I can't wait to go in October to get some night rides in on that thing, the Haunted Graveyard is a big plus as well!

http://www.obfest.org/information.html

For less than the cost of 1 days admission, you get admission, a chance a some cool door prizes, and an hour of night ERT on Boulder Dash.  We've gone to the event every year but one and it's always a great time.  Plus, it's open to anyone so you don't have to be a member of any coaster clubs.

You should come, Ken!

Why do alot of your pics seem blurry? It sucks because they look like they would have been nice pics if it wasn't out of focus.

Thanks.

Yea, I don't know what happened to the pictures of bd. The camera was focused, but the position and brightness of the sun were poor for picture taking.

Twisted rails and I went on one of the only days I had off of Clem. this summer.  We hit SFNE and Compounce on the way home.  (All in one day of driving mind you.)

Boulder Dash is right behind Phoenix and Toro for me.  We got the last ride of the night and it was amazing.
Yep thats right.. Voyage is 4th.

Well it looks like Lake Compunce is still planning on having Oc-Boulder-Fest tomorrow. ([url-http://www.obfest.org/alerts.html]Alerts[/url])
For some reason I think attendance may be a little low.
I'd be surprised if they got the 100 people necessary for the ERT.

I'll make my decision tonight.   Hannah!!!!  :-\

Pshhh, it's gonna be a little windy and a little bit of rain.

Now if Ike was coming at you right now, then I would suggest not going.

It seems they've decided to open to accomodate the groups.  However, be warned, that in the past when they've done that, they've closed the park as soon as the groups have had their meal.  While the park may open, I'd say ERT is very doubtful.  If we go, we'll probably just use our season passes and not do the event.
