How can El Toro open but not PDC? Do you mean it will be finished before the other or they are going to shut down the area just like it is now? How will you ride El Toro if the area is closed and is the only enterance to the ride?

The theming doesn't need to be complete to open the ride. They could just leave construction barriers up along the path to RT/ET if they needed to...

Thats what i was thinking. But they wouldnt leave a whole section closed unless theres no pathway to reach El Toro by, you know? I want to ride RT. Then El Toro and compare the air time. I bet you know whos going to win.

Well, I'll try to ask but somehow, I doubt they will be willing to share this type of info (if they even know).

I am really curious to see how they handle this as well.  I guess they could just get the pathways finished and keep temp fencing in place in front of the stores and buildings until they are done.

But you have to remember.. there was never an extensively themed area planned for SUF.  Actually, it looks like a pretty terrible job ifyou ask me..

wait till shapiro sees how unbalanced our park is when it comes to theming.  From brilliant, to eye sore :D

ALSO new journal update

Jan. 6, 2006 - Despite recent inclement weather, progress continues for the erection of El Toro's supports and track placement. Earlier this week, column 58 was topped off at 188 feet. We are currently at a height of 97 feet through column 63. Column 63 is the area where the track starts to turn between the lift hill and the first drop.

Phase 1, 2 and 3 of ride foundations at the lift and station area are substancially complete. Phase 4 foundations which run along the Lahaway Creek, then makes the turn behind Wildside Pizza is 65% complete. Engineering for the final foundation phases 5 and 6 have been completed and are in fabrication for reinforcing.

pretty cool stuff.  Although the ride is not showing vertical progress aside from the lift hill.. all of the footers are nearly finished already.  I have a good feeling that the rest of the track is going to go up quickly.

Me too. With all the footers and everything in place the coaster will go up very fast. I know there are airtime hills, but I am sure they planned it out so that everything would go up really quickly. They know their deadline, whatever it may be and I am sure they will meet it. I am hoping and looking forward to an opening day ride on ET.

You have to remember that the pouring the footers is the most important work to do right now.  You can erect framing when it's low temperature and snowy but you can't pour concrete.  This winter has been very beneficial to construction with all the unseasonably warm days.

That structure is so tall.  Is one thing seeing a number on paper.. but seeing a picture of it next to RT is striking.

It would appear as though they ran out of lumber for ET.. and decided to takesome from RT. :D

I think theyre track walking.. possibly tuning it up a bit?  Who knows.. but any work on RT is for the better.  Imagine if they really fixed it up nice for the debute of ET.  Than we would have not 1 but 2 classic woodies giving wonderful rides.

Those are some nice pics :D You can see from one of the pics that the turn at the top of the lift will be slanted. Along with the speed from the cable, the slightly downward turn will give you even some more speed going down that drop :D Oh man I can't wait to time this thing.

Jan. 12, 2006 With the mild weather we?re experiencing in central New Jersey, the size of El Toro?s massive structure increases daily. Over the last couple days, the first bent in the curve at the top of the lift hill (#63) was erected to completion.

Workers are busy throughout the entire construction site. The electrical underground conduit, which will run the motor control room, is nearly 40% completed. Storm sewer and sanitary relocation will be starting soon along with installation of the underground air lines necessary for the ride?s braking system.

The layout for Phase 5 foundation work has been started. Phase 5 is the area inside Rolling Thunder?s track where El Toro crosses over and continues along Rolling Thunder?s return track .

Nick you couldn't have said it better yourself. That was my first reaction after seeing these pictures. A number is one thing, but a picture is worth 1,000 words.
